Towards the path of humility

Franciscan sisters doing their silent reflection

BAU — On 9 July, ten Sisters from five communities of Sisters of St Francis of Sarawak (SSFS) spent a day of recollection at Kpg Tringgus on 9 July.

Although it was just a 15 minutes walk, to some of the Sisters, the journey was a challenge negotiating the hilly paths and jungle trek to the homestay centre where the recollection and Mass were held.

Rector of St Stephen’s Parish, Fr John Chong oversaw the recollection. He touched on the virtues of a good leadership in tandem with the path of humility taken by Pope Francis. This can be learned from the way Pope Francis has related and the personal impact it has on the lives of the ordinary people especially those on the periphery of society. The Pope has put himself on the same level like others and not above them. He made it his lifestyle even when he was a bishop.

Fr John Chong told the Sisters that, particularly as Franciscan Religious and as church, everyone is called to emulate Pope Francis’s example to live the lifestyle of Christ with humility and humility. He said that to lead with humility and simplicity like St Francis is to live the lifestyle of Christ himself who is the perfect leader for all.
The recollection ended with Holy Mass and fellowship where the Sisters had the opportunity to reach out to the kampong folks and share their faith stories in and around the kampong.

In its simplicity and generosity of their friendship, the hospitality of the kampong folks was very much appreciated. It was a meaningful recollection day for the Sisters more so to seeing the face of Christ in them.
