Bringing Christ into the deep mountains
MIRI — Foreign workers who are Catholics can be found in the remote and mountainous timber camps and plantations in northern Sarawak. They have not been forgotten.
Father Sylvester Ding Ibau and Father Peter Hwang of the Limbang Parish are reaching out to them, including those in the highlands, through their pastoral visits as evidenced by their recent visits to the parishioners and workers of Merarap Camp and JinLand Camp.
On those visits, they offered Mass and distributed Holy Eucharist to the dozens of workers made up of Indonesians, Timorese and Filipinos.
Merarap Camp can be reached from the nearest urban centre of Lawas town which is the northernmost town of Sarawak. It is a two hour road trip through rugged, slippery, muddy terrain.
The camp is located enroute to Long Semadoh.
Fr Sylvester and Fr Hwang are based in the Limbang Parish which is the northern hub of Miri Diocese.
