KUCHING — The third and final session by the Sarawak Women for Women Society (SWWS) on Awareness for Child Protection: Protecting and Supporting Children, took place on 17 March.

It catered to students from Forms 1- 4, BSC Sunday school. This is a continuation of the steadfast and strong commitment of Blessed Sacrament Church to creating a safe environment for its children and parishioners through education (talks) and the setting up of structures to safeguard them.

SWWS has been at the forefront in the fight against Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) in Sarawak.

The talks began with John Wong, Chairman of the Bible and Faith Formation Committee (BFFC) officiating. The students (English and Chinese mediums) were divided into two groups.

Gill Raja and Dr. Angie Garet led the Talks. They were lively and interesting, similar to the previous sessions. The main points were to ensure that the children were able to name their body parts properly; able to differentiate safe and unsafe touches and situations, and when their private parts should not be touched.

The students also learned to be cautious and aware that danger might come from strangers as well as familiar people. They were also told to report any inappropriate cases to the One Stop Crisis Center (OSCC) located at Sarawak General Hospital’s Accidents and Emergency Unit.

John Wong presented tokens of appreciation to the facilitators at the end of the talks.
