KUCHING At a special Mass to pray for healing at St Joseph’s Cathedral Kuching on 15 May 2025, the Catholic community was told to practice humility, as the spirit of pride in the form of unforgiveness, will block God’s grace.

The Mass and healing adoration was presided by Fr Thomas Bobby Emprayil VC, Director of Divine Glory Ministries, Manipur, India. He is also the newly elected Provincial Superior of St Thomas Province Vincentian Congregation. The rector of St Joseph’s Cathedral, Fr Nicholas Ng concelebrated.

Read the Word of God

In his homily, Fr Bobby impressed upon the congregation the need to read the Word of God, “to proclaim our faith in the risen Lord,” to “claim forgiveness of sin”, “love of Jesus”, “salvation of souls”, to “return to Christ all people who have lost their faith” and “healing from our sicknesses.”

When we experience darkness, pain, rejection or humiliation, we should claim the Word of God. Through quoting the Scriptures, Fr Bobby was able to illustrate healing we can experience. “For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, Your heavenly Father will also forgive you.” (Matt 6:14)

Fr Bobby invited the congregation to surrender everything to God. “Surrender yourself, your family; open your hearts to the word the Lord gives us.”

Be Humble

“Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, ‘Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?’ Jesus answered, ‘I tell you, not seven times, but seventy – seven times.” (Matt 18:21-22)

“God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” (James 4:6)

“Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” (Ephes 4:31-320)

Fr Bobby ended the Mass with a 20-minute eucharistic healing adoration.
