KUCHING — The St Joseph’s Cathedral-based ministry of GROWTH (Grow With The Handicapped) and the Lions Club of Kuching City jointly organised their annual Christmas party on 13 December at ACCPC immediately after the Mass celebrated by Fr Davie Entalai at the Holy Family chapel. It was a joyful event filled with laughter, music, and good food.
In his homily, Fr Davie reminded us that 13 December is the feast day of St Lucy, a virgin and martyr whose name means “light”, celebrated each year on this date. St Lucy reminds us that, like her, we are called to be bearers of Christ’s light in the world.
The day’s gospel reading featured St John the Baptist. It encouraged everyone to be courageous witnesses of Christ’s love, spreading LOVE through small acts of service: like preparing meals for our family members, waking loved ones for Mass and caring for those in need. The Lord wants us to be part of His kingdom, we do not forget others, those who do not have much.
The programme was thoughtfully planned to ensure everyone could participate and feel included. His Grace, Archbishop Simon Poh, also graced the occasion with a few words following speeches by Past President Mr Vincent Tan and Growth President, Madam Augustina Balan. The grace before meals was joyfully sung by all, led by His Grace.
One highlight of the event was the distribution of presents and angpows by Past President Madam Tan Soh Har, with sponsorship from Mr Vincent Tan. The function was also supported by the Leo Clubs of St Teresa and St Joseph Private schools.
There were singing of carols, fun games and delicious food. To add even more cheer, Santa Claus and Santarina made special appearances, delighting everyone with sweets and treats.
What made this celebration truly special was the sense of community, where all came together in support and friendship. It was a beautiful reminder that Christmas is about connection, kindness, and celebrating every member of our community.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all volunteers, sponsors, and supporters as well as the Lions Club and Leo Clubs who helped make this day unforgettable. Your generosity and care brought smiles to many faces and made this Christmas celebration a shining example of inclusion, compassion and the love of Christ.
