KUCHING — (9 April) A new air-compressor was given to the Kuching Carmelite to ensure the stable production of the Altar Bread for Kuching, Sri Aman and Sibu area.
Just A few days before the 2024 Christmas, while the Carmelite sisters were busy producing Altar Bread, the production of the Altar Bread was halted for a day due to overloading of the single air-compressor. Considering the vital importance of the Altar Bread for the Catholic churches, the production of the Altar Bread must remain consistently stable at all times.
With the addition of a new air-compressor, the two units would support each other redundantly if one fails, ensuring stable production of Altar Bread. The two air-compressors are currently powering three Altar Bread bakers and one Altar Bread borer for the production of the Altar Bread.
On normal days, Kuching and Sri Aman area requires 150,000 pieces of Altar Bread per month, while the Sibu area requires close to 100,000 pieces. During the Christmas and Easter seasons, the total requirement for Kuching and Sri Aman area is 200,000 pieces, while the Sibu area requires 150,000 pieces. The daily production of the Altar Bread is about 22,000 pieces.
Currently, Sister Margaret is assisted by four volunteers in the daily production. Being short of volunteers, it is a challenging task for the Carmelite sisters to maintain the production of the Altar Bread.
