LAPOK — On 8 December 2025, the Holy Family Church, Lapok celebrated a profound moment of grace when the parish formally received the Perjalanan Salib (Journey of the Cross). More than 100 parishioners from St Michael’s Church, Batu Niah led by their Rector, Rev Fr Vincent Sta, arrived with joyful hearts to hand over the blessed Cross to the Lapok community.

Upon their arrival, Rev Fr S K Selvan, CMF extended a warm and heartfelt welcome, reminding the gathering that “there is one Lord, one faith, one baptism” (Ephesians 4:5). He shared that the Cross stands as the sign that unites all believers as God’s children, calling everyone to walk together in faith and mutual love.

Fr Vincent Sta then offered a meaningful reflection on the purpose of the Perjalanan Salib, stressing that this journey is meant to strengthen unity under the holy name of Jesus and to renew the spirit of communion among parish communities. He also shared his personal experience which was humble, sincere, and deeply encouraging.

Five representatives from Holy Family Church, Lapok stepped forward to formally receive the Cross from the faithful of St Michael’s, Batu Niah. The procession that followed was vibrant and beautiful, accompanied by traditional dances and heartfelt songs, honouring both culture and faith.

Once the Cross was placed reverently at the sanctuary inside the Church, the celebration of the Holy Mass began, presided by Fr Vincent Sta. Preaching on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, he reminded the faithful of Mother Mary’s purity and wholehearted obedience to God. He urged everyone to strive for holiness within their families and the wider Church, keeping faith alive, united, and strong in the footsteps of Mary.

Toward the conclusion of the Mass, the Creation Justice Commission of the Miri Diocese, led by Mr William Gan, presented 50 tree saplings. This gesture symbolising the Diocese’s 50th anniversary in 2026, echoed the biblical call to care for God’s creation: “The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden to till it and keep it” (Genesis 2:15). The saplings were blessed by the priests, highlighting the Church’s commitment to ecological stewardship.

The celebration ended with a quiet time of veneration before the sacred Cross. Parishioners prayed in deep faith, harmony, and gratitude. A fellowship dinner followed, strengthening bonds of unity before everyone returned home with joyful hearts and renewed faith.

“…though the world behind me, the Cross before me, no turning back, no turning back. Though none go with me, still I will follow. no turning back, no turning back.”
