KUCHING — On 24 October 2025, Blessed Sacrament Church (BSC) held a requiem Mass to commemorate the 4th anniversary of the death of Rev Fr Dato Lawrence Chua who passed away on 24 October 2021.
Fr Lawrence Chua was the rector for Holy Trinity Church, Kenyalang when he initiated the building of BSC to serve the growing Catholic community of BDC Stampin. In 1995, the Blessed Sacrament Centre was completed. He became the first parish priest of Blessed Sacrament Church when it was officially open at the end of 2002.
In paying tribute to Fr Chua, Fr Leonard Yap, the present parish priest of BSC, remembered Fr Chua as the first local born to be ordained a priest in Sarawak in December 1964. He asked the congregation to continue to pray for Fr Chua. Also, the ground floor hall of Blessed Sacrament Centre has now been renamed ‘Fr Dato Lawrence Chua Centre’.
Many parishioners turned up to honour the memory of Fr Chua, including his relatives and friends who came from his hometown Mukah.
