SIBU — Thousands of Catholics from the Diocese of Sibu joined in the 40th Anniversary of the Dedication of Sacred Heart Cathedral Mass at the Cathedral last night (July 30).
Bishop of Sibu, Right Reverend Joseph Hii, thanked all the faithful for attending the Mass, which is a showcase of their love for the Church.
In his homily, Hii said the consecration of the Cathedral served as a reminder or a sign that the Church is not the only place where people could find God, but everywhere and in everyone.
“The whole world that is created by God is His house. Each and every one of us; all the creatures that are made by God are holy, and everyone and every place is a place to encounter God.
“God is inviting all of us to participate by our very action so that we consciously consecrate ourselves to God, to belong to God—just like a Church or a temple consecrated to God,” he pointed out.
Among those in attendance were priests from different parishes in the Diocese of Sibu.
The Mass was held in English, Iban, and Chinese.
The Church was built in 1985, and in 2013, it underwent renovation to accommodate the growing Catholic population here.
In 2015, a High Mass was held to re-dedicate the renovated Cathedral which was also held in conjunction with its 30th Consecration Anniversary.
