KUCHING — Faith formators and catechists from St Peter’s Church and Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, gathered for a special Eucharistic celebration on 2 August 2025 to mark the Commissioning of Catechetical Sunday. The event highlighted the vital role of catechists in nurturing the faith of children, youths, and adults in Sunday School and the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA).
In his homily, Rev Fr Vincent Chin emphasised the importance of keeping God at the centre of all efforts. “When we focus on God, everything will fall into place. He will guide our steps and show us the way. Prayer is essential—through it, we discern God’s plan for our lives. We live for the greater glory of His name,” he reminded the congregation.
Fr Chin, in his message for Catechetical Sunday, urged everyone to actively participate in faith formation. Quoting Deuteronomy 6:6-7, he stressed that faith begins at home, and parents have an irreplaceable responsibility in passing on the Catholic faith to their children. “These words, which I command you this day, shall be upon your heart; and you shall teach them diligently to your children,” he said.
He expressed deep gratitude to all catechists and faith formators for their dedication, time, and energy in teaching and guiding learners of all ages. “Your commitment ensures that the values of compassion, justice, and care are not just taught but lived out in our communities,” Fr Chin acknowledged.
During the celebration, a commissioning rite was read and the catechists were blessed and sent forth to continue their mission of evangelisation and faith formation.
The event served as a powerful reminder of the Church’s collective calling to nurture discipleship and uphold the teachings of Christ in everyday life.
