KUCHING —  On 13 September 2025, the Pastoral Care Ministry of Blessed Sacrament Church (BSC) organised a talk given by Kimberly Wee, who is a practising registered, licensed counsellor under the Board of Counsellors Malaysia on Pastoral Care: The Art of Accompaniment.

The response was overwhelming. 75 participants turned up to listen to how to effectively live up to the demands of discipleship by giving up ones’ time, using God’s given talents and resources to serve his or her neighbours on their journey through life.

This is in line with Pope Francis’ 2013 declaration that everyone is invited to be a church capable of walking at people’s sides, to accompany them in their journey through life. Kimberly delved into the characteristics, mindset, roles and areas of assistance a pastoral care-giver should be mindful of in order to be an effective neighbour citing 1 John 3: 18, “Let us not love in word or speech but in deeds and in truth.”

All can be care-givers when they acknowledge, manage, care, serve, lead and empower others too to carry on the work of spreading the Good News of salvation to those around them. The Holy Spirit, the advocate, will inspire all humble care-givers with wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety and fear of God to go forth with courage and zeal.

When a situation becomes too serious and out-of-hand, there is always an avenue to seek help from the experts at the Emergency Sarawak General Hospital, Kimberly advocated

In view of the overwhelming response, another talk is in the works and those who are interested are encouraged to be on the lookout for it.
