KUCHING — St Joseph’s Cathedral parish Kuching celebrated the Solemnity of Corpus Christi with a procession along Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg, Kuching after the 5 pm Mass on Sunday 6 June.
The main celebrant of the Mass was the Vicar General of Archdiocese of Kuching Monsignor William Sabang. Concelebrating were Archbishop Emeritus John Ha, Rev Fathers Nicholas Ng, Mark Bonchol, Davie Entalai, Patrick Heng, Eugenio Maglasang, Abel Madisang, Agustinus Tanudjaja, and Joseph Raj.
At the conclusion of Mass, the Blessed Sacrament was exposed in a monstrance on the Altar. The monstrance with the Blessed Sacrament was then carried out in the procession by Monsignor William Sabang with other priests taking over at different intervals.
The candlelight procession along Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg was led by the Cross bearer, flag bearers and members of the liturgical ministries. Flower girls and page boys sprinkled flowers along the route of the procession in honour of the Blessed Sacrament. Priests, religious sisters and seminarians joined in the procession.
This year for the first time after many years, a number of lay organisations from the parish took part in the procession as contingents under their respective groups. During the procession, hymns were sung led by the cantors from the music ministry.
At the conclusion of the procession, a short prayer service was conducted at the bell tower of the Cathedral. The congregation gathered at the car park in front of the Cathedral. The service concluded with the Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.
