SERIAN — (Updates on Agnes Ak Aleng) St Theresa’s Parish Rector Fr Paul Herry, who is also the Spiritual Director of the Society of St Vincent De Paul (SSVP) Serian, made a call for donations to rebuild the house for Agnes Ak Aleng, a single mother of Kampung Sg Paku, Simunjan, which was carried in local newspapers in March 2019.

The news received immediate attention from the Welfare Department and donations poured in. The Society of St Vincent De Paul (SSVP) Serian took charge to build the house with the funds made available.

Agnes Ak Aleng now lives in a more comfortable house and receives a monthly allowance from the Welfare Department. However, the hardworking Agnes continues to plant small amounts of crops and collect jungle products from the nearby oil palm plantation for sale.

Rector Fr Paul Herry and Agnes Ak Aleng separately wish to thank the newspapers, the Welfare Department, the generous donors, the St Theresa’s Parish Pastoral Council and the Society of St Vincent De Paul (SSVP) Serian, for their fast action to improve her living conditions.
