KUCHING — On 2 October, 68 Sunday School students from both the English and Chinese Level 10 class from Blessed Sacrament Church received the Sacrament of Confirmation from Archbishop Simon Poh at a special evening Mass.

In speaking to the confirmands, Archbishop Simon told them to cherish the gifts of the Holy Spirit, especially that of wisdom, understanding and knowledge.

At Confirmation, they are sealed with the sign of the cross, a sign that they have now received the gift of the Holy Spirit and belong to Jesus.

He asked everyone to pray like never before, and that if there was only one chance given to him to be used by God, he would pray for the Holy Spirit to empower and strengthen them.

The prelate affirmed the power of the Holy Spirit with the example of an incident he experienced outside the local high court last year.

He received the wisdom to deal with the heckling with a call for peace and religious harmony, which produced calm and dispersion of the unruly crowd and the situation was swiftly contained.

The Confirmation Mass was concelebrated by the Rector of Blessed Sacrament Church, Fr Felix Au.
