KUCHING — On 12 May 2019, Fr John Direk, the newest diocesan priest in the Archdiocese of Kuching, received a warm welcome from parishioners at the Sunday morning Mass at Blessed Sacrament Church, BDC.

It was Vocation Sunday, and Fr John Direk in his homily, aptly reminded the congregation of Jesus’ call to “follow him.” He said it is our duty to spread good news and great joy.

He echoed the comment of the Rector of BSC, Fr Felix Au, that he is a “baby priest” being only eleven days old. He became the 30th priest to be ordained at St Joseph’s Cathedral on 1 May.

Fr John touched briefly on his calling, and how even when he had doubts, he went ahead with his chosen vocation. He now has new responsibilities as a priest.

He was presented with a token of appreciation for celebrating his first Mass at BSC.

As it was also Mother’s Day, Fr Felix blessed all mothers present, while members of the Morning choir presented each of them a stalk of rose.
