The Whisper of the Spirit – A Holy Calling for the Young Faithful

A blessed and inspiring Vocation Roadshow at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church Sri Aman! Grateful to all who organised, participated, and opened their hearts to discern God’s call. A special thank you to our priests, religious brothers and sisters, and seminarians for sharing their journey and guiding our youth. “The harvest is abundant, but the laborers are few; so, ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest.”

SRI AMAN — In conjunction with the Parish Feast Day on 16 August 2025, a profound sense of anticipation filled the air at the Church of Our Lady Queen of Peace. The Vocation Roadshow was not merely an event; it was a sacred space created for young hearts to listen, to question, and to discern the gentle whisper of the Holy Spirit calling them to their divine purpose.

The day began with an opening prayer by Fr Robert Jissem, who invited the Holy Spirit to descend upon the gathering. He set a reverent tone, reminding everyone that every vocation begins not with our own plans, but with a humble and open heart ready to receive God’s will.

The first session, a compelling talk on “Discernment” by Bro Winston Heng (Jesuits), provided the spiritual foundation for the day. With wisdom and clarity, Bro Winston demystified the process of listening to God. “Discernment,” he shared, “is less about choosing a path and more about discovering the path God has already chosen for you. It is about tuning our hearts to the whisper of the Spirit, which often speaks in the silence of our prayer and the needs of the world around us.”

This was followed by intimate Group Sharing sessions, facilitated by Bro Winston, Fr Andre Delimarta SDB, and Fr Robert. In these small circles, young participants found the courage to voice their hopes, fears, and curiosities about their future. The facilitators offered not just answers, but companionship on the journey, emphasising that no question was too small when seeking God’s will.

The energy in the room became even more engaged during the open Q&A Session. Thoughtful questions about the realities of priesthood, religious life, and discerning marriage versus a single life were met with honest, heartfelt answers from the panel of clergy and religious. The session broke down misconceptions and illuminated the beauty of each unique vocation as a path to holiness.

A wonderful moment of discernment at the Catholic Centre in Sri Aman. A big thank you to Bro Addie Frank, our seminarian, for taking the time during tea break to explain “The Basic Requirements to Enter Seminary” to our curious and engaged youth. Your journey is an inspiration.

The roadshow culminated in a deeply moving Benediction and Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. As the monstrance was lifted, a holy silence fell over the youth. In the radiant presence of Jesus Christ, the whispers of the Spirit became clearer for many. It was a powerful moment of adoration and commitment, where prayers of surrender were offered, and hearts were set ablaze with a desire to follow God’s call, wherever it may lead.

We are deeply grateful to all who attended, shared their stories, and prayed with open hearts. May the seeds of vocation planted and nourished on this blessed day continue to grow under the gentle guidance of the Holy Spirit

To all the young faithful: listen for the whisper. Have the courage to answer. Your calling is holy, and the Church needs you.
