KUCHING — The Catholic Senior Citizens Fellowship (CSCF) numbering to approximately 570 life members, through the Social Activity Group (SAG), and the CSCF Choir, play a powerful role in building synodality – the journey of walking, praying, and growing together as a church family. By bringing senior citizens together, these ministries ensure that no one is left behind, creating a vibrant community filled with joy, purpose, and faith.
Here is a summary of the incredible ways CSCF through SAG and Choir make a positive impact:
Healing Isolation and Building Community
Fostering social Inclusion: Providing a warm, welcoming space where seniors find comfort and belonging during every SAG meeting every Wednesday.
Fellowship: Creating deep connections and lasting friendships among people in the same stage of life.
Festive Gatherings: Celebrating major cultural and religious milestones together, including Christmas, Chinese New Year, and Gawai Dayak.
Spiritual Life and Liturgical Service Devotion and Prayer:
Anchoring the senior community in weekly group prayer. Rosary, Divine Mercy, or Station of the Cross and prayers.
Praise and Worship: Lifting hearts together in joyful songs of gratitude and adoration.
Sacred Liturgy: Serving the parish actively by leading and supporting the liturgy during funeral masses, wedding Masses, and other Masses as required by the Parish.
Holy Pilgrimages: Journeying together to sacred places to renew faith and deepen spiritual bonds.
Care and Outreach Ministry
Home Ministry: Bringing the love of Christ and the warmth of the church directly into the homes of seniors.
Elderly Visitations: Responding to requests to visit the elderly and homebound, ensuring they always feel remembered, loved, and valued.
Music and Creative Expression
CSCF Choir: Blending voices to beautify church services and community events.
SAG sing-alongs: Sharing the simple, nostalgic joy of singing favorite tunes together.
Learning Instruments: Keeping minds sharp and spirits bright by teaching seniors how to play the ukulele, guitar, and harmonica.
Mind and Body Wellness Physical Exercise:
Hosting tailored fitness activities to help seniors stay strong, flexible, and healthy.
Dance and Tai-Chi: Our senior programs – like Tai Chi and Zumba on Tuesdays, and cultural dance on Wednesdays – are a living example of this mission.
By dancing and moving together, our seniors show us what a true, connected community looks like. They prove that everyone has a special place and a unique gift to share on our journey of faith.
Mental Games: Organizing board games that challenge the brain, improve memory, and provide fun, friendly competition.
Besides the above:
CSCF is ever ready to assist in transport and listening to every voice through technology:
Transport: Always ready to assist those who need transport for outings, such as visits to the Home of Peace or evening festival functions, through a convenient carpooling arrangement.
Technology: creates awareness through WhatsApp groups, where members can share their thoughts, greetings, and the latest information.
This helps us journey together, listen to one another, share responsibility, and care for our community.
Conclusion:
Through these diverse activities, CSCF does not just occupy time – they honour the dignity of our seniors. They prove that aging can be a time of active service, continuous learning, and deep spiritual fellowship, beautifully reflecting the true spirit of a SYNODAL church.
