Letter of Gratitude for Donation for Myanmar Earthquake

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Peace be with you. In April this year, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Malaysia (CBCM) launched a nationwide appeal in response to the devastating earthquake that struck Myanmar. We invited all dioceses, parishes, religious communities, Catholics and people of goodwill throughout Malaysia to express our solidarity through prayers and generous giving. Your heartfelt contributions – offered in a true spirit of communion and compassion have become a visible sign of Christ’s love and have given hope to our brothers and sisters in Myanmar.

Total Amount Collected: RM 907,574.05 (as at 11th November 2025)
This was done through special collections at weekend Masses and subsequent donations throughout the whole nation.

Disbursement of Funds
These funds have been faithfully directed toward on-going relief work, rehabilitation, and community rebuilding, focusing especially on the vulnerable and marginalised communities who are striving to restore their lives and livelihoods.

  • RM 856,351.35 – this has been transferred on 31st July 2025, through Caritas Malaysia to Caritas Myanmar (Karuna) and to the Archdiocese of Mandalay, the region most affected by the earthquake.
  • RM 51,222.70 – the remaining balance will be disbursed on 31st January 2026, following further consultation with our partners in Myanmar on emerging needs and long-term recovery priorities.

This outpouring of generosity reveals the compassionate heart of our Malaysian Catholic Church – a community that listens to the cry of the poor, acts in solidarity, and manifests God’s mercy through concrete love.

Together with my brother Bishops, we extend our deepest appreciation to every diocese, parish, religious congregation and individual donor. Let us keep the people of Myanmar close to our hearts and prayers. Even as their suffering fades from headlines, may our solidarity remain steadfast. I am certain that the seeds of hope we have sown will continue to grow wherever faith and compassion take root.

With profound gratitude, thank you for compassion, care & solidarity.

In Christ, our Hope and Healer,

Archbishop Simon Poh
President, Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Malaysia
Solemnity of Christ the King – 23 November 2025
