KUCHING — The Perjalanan Salib continued its journey with the Salib (Cross) arriving at Blessed Sacrament Church (BSC) from St Mark’s Church, Batu Kawa, on the evening of 27 June.
The Salib will remain at the parish until 11 July before travelling to Church of Mother Mary, Stutong; Holy Trinity Church, Kenyalang; St Peter’s Church, Padungan; and then returning to St Joseph’s Cathedral. It will later head to Sibu for MPC2026 in September.
The Salib first arrived at the Cathedral after Malaysia Catholic Youth Day (MCYD) 2025, which brought together more than 1,000 youths from Malaysia’s nine dioceses in the Archdiocese of Kota Kinabalu from 31 March to 6 April 2025.
Blessed Sacrament Church officially welcomed the Salib during a procession at the 10.30am Sunday Mass on 28 June, accompanied by the Church choir singing the MPC theme song, “Bangkitlah”.
In his homily, BSC rector Fr Leonard Yap urged the congregation to keep Christ at the centre of their Christian lives. Pointing to the Cross, he reflected on its significance and quoted Scripture: “Anyone who does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me.”
The journey of the nine crosses across Malaysia’s nine dioceses will culminate at MPC2026 in September, where they will be assembled into one large SALIB.
