KUCHING — Friends and members of Catholic Single Women Fellowship (CSWF) together with Spiritual Director Rev Sister Marie Celine Wee gathered on 31 August 2026 for a day of recollection in conjunction with its 10th Anniversary of founding. Rev Fr Nicholas Ng did the recollection themed ‘Rooted in Christ : You Are Beauty’, followed by a Thanksgiving Mass and a simple buffet lunch.
CSWF was founded on 22 August 2016, on the feast of the Queenship of Mary. Its mission and vision is basically to live in simplicity, humility and with faith as we journey with other single (never married) sisters through supporting and loving each other and to grow holistically for the glory of God and the growth of His Church. CSWF, founded one Queenship of Mary.
Although CSWF faced various challenges especially during the covid time, it managed to fulfil its mission through online rosary, visiting of sick and bed bound sisters (when permitted), taking part in Church activities (family day sales) and supporting members during bereavement by attending wake prayers among many others.
Pilgrims from Penang were so touched by charity shown by some of the members of CSWF to one of them who was seriously hurt, that they are considering starting one.
Fr Nicholas in his recollection shared that when we talk about beauty of a person, we are seeing from 2 different views: External (physical appearance) and Internal (character); the more important viewpoint is that of Internal beauty.
The Bible reveals two sides of beauty: Physical beauty of creation e.g. lilies of the field and birds of the air. When it comes to Jesus, His physical beauty was rarely described.
In contrast, through the Prophet Isaiah 53:2 when describing the suffering Messiah: He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.
However, Jesus’ inner beauty was shown through his mercy, his actions, his greatest being that of suffering and dying on the cross. Ultimately Jesus’ true beauty will be fully shown when we are face to face with Him.
We pray that rooted in Christ, we the CSWF will continue its mission and vision and we invite other single women to join us by contacting the St Joseph Parish office.
