KUCHING — The Christ the King Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites (OCDS) Community concluded its Silent Retreat with hearts filled with gratitude and renewed spiritual fervor. Held from 29 to 31 August 2026, the retreat was centred on the theme “OCDS Promise – The Evangelical Counsels and the Beatitudes” and was conducted by Fr George Ho, OCD who is based in Singapore.
During the retreat, participants reflected deeply on the Evangelical Counsels of chastity, poverty, and obedience, together with the Beatitudes, exploring how these Gospel values shape and strengthen the vocation of a Secular Discalced Carmelite. Through prayer, reflection, and spiritual instruction, members were encouraged to renew their commitment to living their Carmelite promise with greater faithfulness and generosity.
The retreat programme included talks, periods of personal prayer and silent reflection, the daily celebration of the Holy Eucharist, and the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The atmosphere of silence created a sacred space for participants to listen attentively to the voice of God and deepen their relationship with Him.
A particularly joyful occasion during the retreat was the Clothing with the Brown Scapular of the community’s new novice, Constance Lim. The community warmly welcomes her as she begins her initial formation in the Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites and entrusts her journey to the loving care and protection of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
