Lenten Recollection 2026

SIBU, 7 March 2026 – The English Prayer Group of Sacred Heart Cathedral successfully organised a Lenten Recollection programme at St Teresa’s Church, bringing together 27 participants from diverse age groups and ethnic backgrounds. The one-day programme, held from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., provided a meaningful opportunity for prayer, reflection, and spiritual renewal during the Lenten season.

The recollection was led by Fr Olivier Lomboto, the Spiritual Director for all charismatic movements in the Sibu Diocese. In his reflection, he highlighted the three central pillars of Lent—fasting, almsgiving, and prayer—encouraging participants to embrace these practices with sincerity and humility. He emphasised that genuine spiritual growth comes from a heartfelt commitment to these disciplines, especially during this sacred period in the Church calendar.

Participants were given time for personal prayer and meditation, allowing them to reflect deeply on their spiritual lives and renew their relationship with God. The afternoon session continued with the Stations of the Cross, offering a contemplative journey through Christ’s suffering. This was followed by Eucharistic adoration and the Sacrament of Reconciliation, providing participants with opportunities for healing, repentance, and grace.

The recollection concluded with the celebration of the Holy Mass, presided over by Fr Olivier, marking a fitting culmination to a spiritually enriching day.

The organising committee expressed their heartfelt appreciation to Fr David Ho, Rector of St Teresa’s Church, for his generosity in providing the venue and support for the programme.

Overall, the Lenten Recollection 2026 was a fruitful and grace-filled gathering, fostering spiritual growth and unity among participants as they journey through the Lenten season.
