KUCHING — On 16 August 2026, 25 students from Form 1 to Form 3 of St Peter’s Church Sunday School, Padungan, gathered for the annual Modesty Pledge programme.
This year, the students were blessed to have Seminarian Brother Kenny G. Sonti from St Peter’s College Seminary lead the opening session. He encouraged the youth to see modesty not as a set of restrictions, but as an expression of dignity and respect for the body as a gift from God and a temple of the Holy Spirit.
Across two sessions, the students reflected on the courageous witness of St Maria Goretti and took part in a Media Talk that encouraged them to discern and “filter” the messages and influences they encounter in the digital world. They were reminded that chastity begins in the heart and is expressed through our words, actions and choices, and that caring for our bodies is part of our stewardship of God’s gifts.
The programme concluded with a meaningful pledge ceremony attended by their parents. With Brother Kenny and their parents as witnesses, the students recited and signed the Modesty Pledge, committing themselves to live with purity and dignity.
The occasion was a reminder that the formation of young people is a shared journey between the Church and family. May our youth continue to grow in dignity, chastity and stewardship of the body, always keeping Christ at the centre of their lives.
