SINGAPORE — Two parish priests in Singapore, who are brothers, are now recuperating after an operation in which the younger donated his kidney to his older sibling.
Father Adrian Yeo, who needed the transplant, received the organ from his younger brother, Father Ignatius Yeo, in a surgical procedure on Sept 3.
Both are now recuperating in a care facility.
In a Facebook post on Sept 10, Father Adrian, parish priest of the Church of the Holy Family, thanked all who prayed for them. “I recovered well and now am in a nursing home to convalesce for a few months till I am stable. Please continue to pray for us as we recover,” he wrote.
Father Ignatius, parish priest of the Church of Saint Anthony, in an update on the parish’s Facebook page, said he offered a Thanksgiving Mass on Friday, Sept 5, to the Sacred Heart of Jesus “in gratitude for the abundant graces poured out upon my brother and me during our recent operation”.
“I also lift up in thanksgiving the outpouring of prayers from so many wonderful people, as well as God’s guiding hand upon the surgeons, their team, and to bless all our caregivers during this time of recovery,” he wrote.
In the weeks before the operation, Catholics from around the Singapore Archdiocese held prayer sessions for the success of the procedure.
Both priests are in their 50s.
