KUCHING — The 10.30 am English Pentecost Sunday Mass at Blessed Sacrament Church was presided over by parish rector Fr Leonard Yap.
In his homily, Fr Leonard reminded the congregation that, through Baptism, they became children of God and at Confirmation, they were “sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Their mission is to evangelise by sharing the Good News with their families, communities, and at their workplace.
Fr Leonard asked the congregation to reflect on the seven gifts and nine fruits of the Holy Spirit, and on how they are lived out in their daily lives. We should not fear the Holy Spirit but to call on the Holy Spirit to help us, guide us and teach us.
Servant Communities Emmaus, a Catholic Charismatic Renewal (CCR) group based in Blessed Sacrament Church led the Praise & Worship, invoking the Holy Spirit to heal and fill the needs of the congregation. Many parishioners testified to “being touched” by the Holy Spirit at the charismatic Mass.
In preparation for a powerful infilling of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost Sunday, Emmaus had organised a 9-day novena to the Holy Spirit, and spent an hour in preparatory prayers, calling for protection and a powerful outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the congregation just before the morning Mass.
