KUCHING — On 18 July 2026, the Home of Peace (HOPe) concluded its Gawai Dayak celebrations with a joyful Gawai Closing Celebration 2026, bringing together residents, staff, benefactors and friends in an evening of thanksgiving, fellowship and cultural tradition.
The celebration was officially graced by YB Dato Lo Khere Chiang, ADUN for N13 Batu Kitang. Also present were Sr Flora Tingang, Matron of Home of Peace, Mr Jacob Wong, Chairman of Catholic Welfare Services (CWS), Rev Fr Patrick Heng, Spiritual Director of CWS, together with benefactors, volunteers, residents and staff.
The evening opened with the residents performing a special Home of Peace rendition of Rasa Sayang, followed by lively praise and worship songs by the choir of Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel, line dances by the Praise Dance Group of Taman Sahabat, and solo performances by members of the Home of Peace staff, creating a warm and festive atmosphere.
During the fellowship dinner, YB Dato Lo Khere Chiang greeted residents and guests with warm smiles and words of encouragement. A highlight of the evening was the traditional Potong Ranyai ceremony, led by Sr Flora Tingang, followed by YB Dato Lo Khere Chiang and Mr Jacob Wong, symbolising thanksgiving and the sharing of blessings.
The celebration concluded with the meaningful Ngiling Bidai, the ceremonial rolling of the woven mat, marking the official close of the Gawai harvest festival. As the Gawai season came to an end, the Home of Peace community expressed heartfelt gratitude to all benefactors, volunteers, performers and friends whose friendship, generosity and care continue to bring hope and joy to its residents.
