BAU — The faithful of St Thomas More Church, Kampung Kandis Baru, Bau, gathered on Sunday, 21 June 2026, to celebrate the Feast Day of St Thomas More and the Church’s 69th anniversary. The occasion also coincided with Father’s Day and the Gawai festive season, making it a joyous community celebration.
The programme began at 3.00 pm with the Divine Mercy Prayer led by the Divine Mercy Apostolate from Bau, followed by a faith-sharing session at 3.30 pm by Brother Yohanes Gausana from Pontianak.
The Sunday Mass at 5.00 pm was celebrated by Rev Fr Peter Liston, Rector of St Stephen’s Church, Bau Parish. In his homily, Fr Peter encouraged the faithful to fear God and not be anxious about life’s challenges, reminding them that God will always provide. At the end of Mass, he gave a special blessing to all fathers in conjunction with Father’s Day.
The celebration continued with a potluck fellowship at the Kampung Kandis Baru Community Hall. It was a multiple celebration of the church anniversary, Father’s Day and Gawai, with many parishioners adding colour to the occasion by wearing traditional Bidayuh attire.
The day concluded in a spirit of thanksgiving and fellowship as the community celebrated God’s blessings and their shared faith under the patronage of St Thomas More.
